Các ngôn ngữ bên trên nén Độ nằm trong một vài ngữ hệ không giống nhau, nhập cơ đem ngữ chi Indo-Arya (được 72% người nén Độ sử dụng) và ngữ hệ Dravida (được 25% người nén Độ sử dụng)[1]. Các ngữ điệu không giống bên trên nén Độ thuộc sở hữu những ngữ hệ Hán-Tạng, ngữ hệ Nam Á, ngữ hệ Tai-Kadai và một vài ngữ hệ phụ và những ngữ điệu biệt lập[2].

Ngôn ngữ đầu tiên loại nhất bên trên Cộng hòa nén Độ là giờ Hindi xài chuẩn chỉnh trong lúc giờ Anh là ngữ điệu đầu tiên loại hai[3] Hiến pháp của nén Độ quy ấn định "Ngôn ngữ đầu tiên của Liên bang là giờ Hindi với khối hệ thống chữ ghi chép Devanagari."[4] Cả Hiến pháp tương tự pháp luật của nén Độ đều ko quy xác định rõ ngữ điệu vương quốc, đó là một ý kiến được tương hỗ vị một phán quyết của Tòa án Tối cao.[5] Tuy nhiên, những ngữ điệu được liệt kê nhập Mục lục 8 của Hiến pháp nén Độ 8 đôi lúc được nhắc cho tới, ko độ quý hiếm pháp luật, là ngữ điệu vương quốc của nén Độ.[6][7].

Ấn Độ đem tổng số 22 ngữ điệu đồng đầu tiên. Như vậy cũng dễ nắm bắt vì thế nén Độ rất nhiều dân tuy nhiên không tồn tại một ngữ điệu tương đồng như vương quốc láng giềng Trung Quốc.
